Couple One
— When we first met, there was something
about you I had never seen in anyone before. It
was like this ancient recognition. Like we had
been in each other all along. Then we made each
other laugh, and I knew we were made for each
other. I feel so so honored to be your partner
in this life. I have always been in awe of your
joy and this amazing bright light that shines
from your huge heart. Your compassion is contagious.
Your support is undying. You are my reminder of
the great cosmic joke. At the same time, you remind
me to be humble and honest. You are truly my best
friend.
— I take you, Peter, to be my husband from
this day forward, to honor and love you. When
things are most challenging, I will hold you in
my strong wings, and then face you … really
see you … not so we can sit idly by and
melt into each other, but so that we can stand
within the strength of this love - and have the
courage to walk beside one another on this great
earth.

Couple Two
— My world changed the moment we met when
you bounced thru the doors at the airport with your
little knees knocking. I love your desire to have
traveled across the world for me, your gentle and
tender nature, your compassion and thoughtfulness,
your passion for life, and your pronunciation of
the English language. You make me laugh and you
bring out the best in me. Sometimes I feel I couldn’t
love you any more than I do… I am grateful
beyond belief that God brought us together and I
couldn’t see my life without you in it.
I Mary, take you, Peter, to be my husband, loving
what I know of you, and trusting what I do not
yet know. I promise to be faithful, to love you,
respect you and be honest with you always. I promise
to be supportive of your goals and as you grow
intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, I
will be by your side rooting for you all the way.
Never be afraid to confide in me. I promise to
be a good listener and a safe confidant. You are
always welcome into my innermost world, and I
promise to share my goals and ideas with you.
Peter, one day at a time I promise to love and
cherish you through whatever life may bring us.
— When we hooked up on the Internet in
2003, we shared our personal and intimate history
over the smell of fresh cut grass. I found myself
living from one email to the next. Then, having
seen your picture, the reflection of your beauty
and hearing your lyrical voice over the phone,
I prayed and prayed quietly, for you were the
one I had wished upon a star for, on all those
mornings.
Faith and prayer led to our first date four
months later. With anxiety and nervousness, I
walked the long airport corridor towards you,
trying to keep out of the way of expectations.
There you were, the Golden Aura, the warmth and
softness of your hand was paradoxically a true
reflection of you, your inner self.
Shannon, you are truly a gift from the Universe,
across 5000 miles, two continents and 50 million
people. What is the mathematical probability of
us meeting and connecting in such a manner…PROVIDENCE…
With the Universe as witness, all that I am
I offer to you Mary, in love and joy. I vow to
cherish and honour you. To vow to support and
to nurture you as my friend, companion and wife.
I promise to forsake all others, to hold you close
in my arms, and walk with you through life, wherever
it may lead and whatever may come, in complete
faith and trust. I want to look into those hazel
eyes each day and say I love you.
THE RING:
Mary, my love, I give you this ring as symbol
of my love. That I freely choose to share my whole
life’s journey, my body, mind and spirit,
with you. I will honour you and together we will
become more of who we are, as we celebrate our
life on this Earth. So shall it be.

Couple Three
— Peter, I love you. Your big heart, your
energy and exuberance, your devotion and loyalty
to those you love constantly enthrall me. When we
first met in poetry writing class, and workshopped
our poems together, I felt seen, understood, and
supported by you. Through you and with you I have
learned to embrace my fears and live life with more
freedom and passion than I had known was possible.
You bring me joy. You are the one for me.
I, Mary, choose you, George,
in the presence of our family and close friends,
to be my husband and partner
from this day forward.
I promise to love you,
to listen deeply,
to be your safe haven and confidant.
To walk hand in hand down the path of life
And always, to hold you close.
To be empathetic
and when that is a challenge,
to learn to be more compassionate.
To nourish you with my gentleness,
to uphold you with my strength.
To weigh the effects of the words I speak and
the things I do,
To each day give thanks for your presence.
As together our lives unfold,
I promise to be faithful,
to always express my emotional truth
to do my best to welcome the lessons that come
when we rub against each other’s sharp edges.
I choose to be with you always
from this day until the end of our days.
— Mary
we are different
and yet so the same.
we understand each other –
I love that about us.
You encourage me to be who I am
and who I want to be
You present me the grace
of acceptance, love and appreciation
There is no greater gift
I know who you are.
I love who you are
and I appreciate
and accept you.
I, Peter, take you Mary, to be my wife
for richer or poorer in any facet of life.
I trust what I have yet to learn of you.
I vow to be faithful and honest with you
to be a listener and safe confidant,
to love and cherish you
in the sun
and in the rain
I thank you for agreeing to our union
and for our peaceful easy feeling.
This ring - smooth on the outside with lots
of texture in the interior -
symbolizes my love for you - may this ring honour
and always seal our life
together.
